Well among the other Malibu problems I have had to experience I am now having problems with my ignition switch. It started with my key sticking and not coming out then it got promoted to sometimes coming out, but not returning fully to the OFF position.
I paid a locksmith to look at the lock cylinder and he showed me where 3 tumblers did not rest correctly he 'fixed' the problem by removing the 3 tumblers and reinstalling it. This is NOT the way to do it and I only found that he did this after the fix only worked 1 day and the 'not going to OFF' still existed.
The problem actually lies in the ignition switch NOT in the cylinder as I was led to believe by the way it would lock up. I found this out after I again took out the ignition switch and took out ALL tumblers so that I could do the 'screw driver' method of starting my car.
I am now forced to go to the dealership and ask for a new ignition switch, which I was told was going to be something like $120 - $160. This is ALSO the price for the cylinder (the portion you insert the key into) the reason why this piece of metal is so expensive is because it has a computer chip fastened to the top. I need to ask more intently about them selling me the cylinder without the chip.
Hope this helps someone get an idea of what is hapening.
