My 2000 Malibu has 100000 miles on it and the check engine light is on. What are the causes of that light and any other information on running the vehicle with the light on.

I have a 1998 Malibu and my light kept coming on too. If you take it to Auto Zone they will check it for free and tell you what it is. My turned out to be the gas cap was not sealing properly and I just needed a new one

I have a 1998 Malibu and I had the light turn of few times. When I want to the dealer they said that my fuel (gas) cap was not on properly. If you adjust the cap it should turn of after a while. This is the most common reason and I had it happen to me twice. The other reason could be you just got bad gas. You would notice the car stalling, misfiring or hesitating of acceleration. It takes about two full gas tanks for the light to go off. Or it could be that you drove through a deep puddle of water and wet the electronic system. Once it dry it should turn off. Hope this helps

I have a 1997 Malibu and my engine light is on all the time. The only way i have found to temproarly shut it off is to have a mechanic hook it up to a diagnostic machine and it refreshes teh codes. But it gets coslty. I have had mine in for repairs 2 times since i got it a year ago. But it never fails, teh light is a constant.

I have a 98 Malibu and have recently had the check engine light come on...Auto Zone reset the code (not without major @*#(@ about how much it would cost to have it done at a repair shop). Took a total of 45 seconds.
I replaced the PCV ($3.00) and haven't had a problem since.
Now I'm having a hot engine stall condition...drive home from work the past 2 out of 3 days the car died in almost the exact same spot (within 1/4 mile). Drove approximately 15 miles and the car hesitates, then stalls. Able to crank it and start...but stalled 2 more times. Let it sit for 5 minutes, started and was able to drive it home (4 miles).

Sounds like a fuel pump to me!!!!

i have a 97 malibu 2.4. im having the same problem with stalling while driving. also, the engine idles rough when i start the engine, then it smoothes out. the engine light is on because of this rough idling.
ive already changed the spark plugs, along with the boots, fuel filter, air filter, even cleaned out the throttle body, and bought a fuel system cleaning solution to add to my fuel. i even replaced a very bad vacuum hose just under the throttle body.
Autozone checked and had reset the light, but it came on again the next day. They said the code was an air/fuel mixture problem and that it could be a number of things wrong. any advice would help. thanks....

What should i do to fix my car if it will stall while i am driving it and won't start sometimes when i go to drive somewhere. It will just suddenly start after about 10 minutes of trying to start it. And it will stall when i am driving it and i go to stop at a stop sign or go to stop at a stop light.

Hi,
My malibu99 with 134 th mile started showing "check". How can I get more clue about what happened to it? How serious it is? I don't see any other problem at the moment. Thanks in advance

i had the same problem with my 98 malibu. the check engine light came on repeatedly, i took it to the shop numerous time for them to keep saying it was my gas cap, one even told me i put gas in my car while its running, but since i have a lock gas cap i need a key, so i would have to shut my car off to unlock it....finally it turns out that there was a pin hole in a hose and the light hasnt been on since.
i do have one problem that has yet to be figured out. my car ticks like the turning signal is on and bings like the door is open, yet neither are on/open. no lights are lit on the dash board either.it does it randomly and is driving me up a wall, it is coming from my dash board and is behind the 4way flasher button. if anyone can help. please do
